OUTREACH CLIMB & F4F Project

The need for mobile outreach services was, and continues to be critical since most families in Mangyan Communities live in very rural, isolated and underserved settings. Fight4Five is a mobile outreach programme delivering school/home based health care, educational drive, peer education, social & cultural activities and environmental awareness services as well as programs that aimed to alleviate poverty and promote economic sustainability to indigent families. As Keep Hope Alive volunteers, young advocates spend time educating community people on the prevention of epidemic in communities, visit schools in geographically isolated areas to talk to school children about hygiene & nutrition. Youth volunteers gather at KHA Center today to pack school kits for our indigent & needy school children. Our goal this year is to provide school supplies to 6,500 students in need. With the support of all KHA volunteers, sponsors and community members our goal is certainly attainable. Last year, we provided school kits to 6,000 school children. Pasko ng mga Batang Mangyan (Christmas of Mangyan Children)

      Doing something special for these Mangyan kids on Christmas. Showing them that they are loved and will remember all year long. This holiday season is the perfect time when these kids & their families usually get such things as a grocery pack, a new pair of clothes, and a simple toy like a car or doll. We are so thankful to the many individuals who have taken these children into their hearts and are committed to helping/sponsoring them!

Quinomay Kids (Keep Hope Alive's Adopted Community)

Since 2008, "Keep Hope Alive" has been supporting hundreds of children in need with its community outreach programmes.

These children from Mangyan Villages come to our school-based programs for around six hours each day where they receive two hours of informal education, hygiene/grooming treatment, a nutritious meal, film showing and the chance to play care-free, with the youth volunteers and other children. NGITING TAGUMPAY PROJECT

NGITING TAGUMPAY PROJECT: I have done many physical exams in Day Care Centers & Elementary Schools in Mansalay. By far the biggest health problem is dental decay. For that reason, I begun teaching the youngest children in the schools how to brush and take care of their teeth. As an incentive we are giving each child in those classes a toothbrush & toothpaste and actually have them use it during the teaching. This Healthy Teeth Campaign is for every Day Care Centers & Elementary Schools in the Municipality of Mansalay.

BANTAY KALUSUGAN Project

BANTAY KALUSUGAN: Health Check-up is a chance to have a private, face-to-face assessment and conversation with a Health Care Provider (Physician, Nurse, Pharmacist) to better understand their health conditions and how/when to take their medicines, what they are doing for the patient and how to control any side effects. This is a Free Health Check-up/Assessment and Free Basic Medicines Program given to community people of Mansalay. As a nurse I am striving to achieve long term and self-sustaining healthy communities where extreme poverty and lack of basic  education and healthcare are a problem. I believe that through spiritual healing and preventive care a healthy community can enable itself to withstand the challenges of tomorrow.

School Electrification Program

This School Electrification Program has been helping communities and students in far-flung areas in the Philippines through the use of renewable energy-powered multimedia technology; both teachers and students experience better teaching and learning conditions. Luckily, Mansalay got 4 out of 6 solar projects in Mindoro Provinces (Anahaw, Sinariri, Kilapnet & Salay Elem. School). Over 67,546 students in over 200 rural schools all over the Philippines have been given access to this multimedia- based distance education powered by renewable energy program (Solar Power) of AMORE with help from program partners such as WinRock International, ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. – E-Media Program, Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc., Intel Microelectronics (Phils.), Inc., International Copper Association, Southeast Asia, Ltd., Malampaya Foundation, Inc., National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, Rotary Clubs (Davao & Dipolog) & San Miguel Corporation (Phase 3).

 Being a local politician and an independent Nurse practitioner in our municipality is an opportunity for me to learn the values and culture of Mangyan tribes and to live a unique personal and professional experience that is simply not available in any hospital or health care employment setting. 

      Not only will you encounter a fascinating people and culture, but your expertise as a nurse will be broadened and valued. In my practice as an independent professional nurse, a broad spectrum of services, I have the opportunities to explore different specialties and gain additional skills in the field. I also see how your efforts to care for advocate for and educate patients and constituents which can have a ripple effect on the entire community.

      One of my nursing goals is to “ensure that comprehensive, culturally acceptable personal and public health services are accessible and available to all Mangyans and Native people in this country.

Advanced Handloom Weaving Training

Promotion of handloom weaving in Mansalay has been a major Sustainable Livelihood Generation Program of the LGU. Anabu and Abaca raw materials are abundant in Mansalay. This small-scale industry is a proven livelihood in improving the family income with the entire benefits directly goes to the weavers. This training was provided by the Phil. Textile Institute of DOST and the LGU with the main idea of developing a small scale industry and promoting handloom weaving with the help of advanced technique and to help the poor families to earn through the handloom generation.
