The world today has the largest generation of young people
in history with 1.8 billion between the ages of 10 and 24 years. Many of them
already are driving transformative change, and many more are poised to do so,
but lack the opportunity and means. Youth also represents a powerhouse of human
potential that could transform health and to ensure that no young person is
left behind and all can realize their right to health equitably and without
discrimination or hindrance (WHO, 2018).
EMPOWER 6.0 Health & Wellness Advocacy Camp is a
strategic opportunity to meaningfully engage young people in transforming
health and sustainable development. This will mean providing opportunities for
young people’s engagement with local, national and global programmes highlighting
major health issues today: MENTAL HEALTH, TEENAGE PREGNANCY, HIV/AIDS and
VACCINES.
This Leadership & Advocacy Camp will focus its efforts
on three strategic areas—challenging harmful legal and policy barriers that
deter young people from accessing services, supporting youth participation in
the health response and strengthening innovative partnerships between
organizations, government and networks of young people.
Meaningful youth participation at all levels results in
responsive health systems that take advantage of new innovations and
technologies, strengthening their social interest, strong inclusive policies
and nurturing long-term commitment to creative health solutions.
TOGETHER, we can make a difference!
